Now only time will tell if I’m going to get a substantial raise or if I’m going to be making less than the campus hires.
I hope its the former

My experience with this (3-4 times now) has been that everyone stays where they are. But you might suddenly be at the top of the range (bad) or at the bottom of the range (good).
I much prefer working for smaller companies where you can just negotiate freely and not be stuck in a giant HR framework. At my current mega-employer, t
he last promotion I lost out on was for a job
I was several years overqualified for -- in
a job that I’ve already been doing for 2 years. But I didn’t put a few specific items on my resume that they were looking for. It was insane. HR said they were not allowed to rely on the hiring manager’s existing knowledge of my skills, work history, or reputation. /rant

I came from a small business where pay raises weren’t really a thing, to a big university where all kinds of things are standardized... then things got tight and I’ve only seen 2.5% annual increases each year since. Oh joy!

I’m lucky where raises are both pretty good and very transparent. Your “rating” directly feeds your percent raise.

Everything where I work is prett y firm especially at lower levels , like I know I’m up for promotion this year because of how long I’ve been here. On the flip side I also know for a fact that if I dont get a promotion this year I am falling well behind expectations.

At my last job my first raise was 4%. I was told that my goal salary “was obtainable through hard work.” I did put in a lot of work networking and developing my resume and my next “ raise” was 27%. My old employer didn’t want to match that and I didn’t want to be undervalued. Changing companies is where it’s at if the goal is more money.

That’s more than I got.
But hey at least my bonus (paid out in shares) allowed me to record a loss in my taxes when I cashed it out.

They are probably changing the pay scales so they never have to give their current employees a raise.

Thankfully I work at a company that requires a high level talent pool (Not sure how I squeezed in haha) and the y are more than willing to pay up for talent.
As far as I know they are changing them to remain competitive in the current environment since they haven’t made a wholesale for a while.
